As always I want to send my love to my husband Michael, for believing in pretty much everything I do and to my girls, love you always.

  Chapter 1

How had this happened, he was leaving the restaurant only to wake here in this room? He knew he was close to dying and relished the thought. He had no idea where he was, the inside of this room had become his dungeon. He spent every moment terrified at what was to come next, he knew little about the people who kept him captive. What he did know filled him with fear for he couldn't escape, he had tried everything which had only caused him further injury, now he was no longer trying, and he was too tired. His wife would be frantic, he thought about his lovely wife constantly.

He looked around the darkened room, his movement restricted by the restraints holding him on a large wooden table. He had worked out that he was in some sort of a basement, although that conclusion was only based on the lack of windows, the stairs, and his inability to hear anything. Pain spanned his body but only in the parts that were no longer numb including his swollen mouth, and the eye that he could no longer open. When he heard someone coming down the stairs, he reverently wished that both of his eyes were swollen shut.

  ***********

As she pulled into her driveway the house looked dark, the eerie feeling magnified by the darkness of night and the towering swaying trees. The long winding driveway and fir trees prevented it from being seen by people passing. Locating a property such as this in bustling New York had been far from easy, set thirty miles from any other property adequately served the particular needs of the owner.

The house could only be found by invitation or not, as was the case for some of the inhabitants. The outside of the house was painted a dark grey, and housed windows that could barely be seen at nightfall. The interior was spread over three floors, with nine rooms on the ground floor all arranged for entertaining, these rooms were tastefully decorated with burgundy walls, which stood out against the heavy black curtains. Each contained dark furniture, which could be moved between the rooms when needed, the dark wood also hid the stains of dried blood. Some of the more elaborate and specific equipment had been custom made, although the expense had immediately increased her profit's which always pleased her. A further twelve rooms and three bath rooms were housed on the second floor; these rooms contained her employees, the majority of whom lived here involuntarily, resting only when they were not required to entertain.

After she had paid for the house, she had separated it into two sections. One area housed her thriving business and another smaller area provided a living area, one for her to use whenever she visited her investments. The basement made up the final floor, this she had turned into a private room for her own distinctive fun. The room was currently illuminated by thick black candles on large wooden stands; sound proofed walls and no windows ensured her privacy. The high ceilings enlarged the shadows moving along the walls which contained various runes, painted in a rich red substance. This room had always seemed oppressive, with a strong ominous presence that seeped into your bones the minute you descended the old creaky stairs.

He heard her enter before he saw her; the clanging of her shoes as she came down the stairs increased his anxiety. Already he could feel the alarm set his chest which magnified when he heard the anger in her tone.

"That bitch, how dare she? Who does she think she is, taking what is mine? It's time to teach her a lesson."

Oh god, she was majorly pissed. The voice inside his head started citing the Lord's Prayer though his lips never moved. He prayed for forgiveness for the thoughts inside of him, the thoughts that wished he was dead already.

Staring at herself in the mirror, she was dismayed to see that her long hair was rapidly turning grey. She could already see a slight droop in her eyebrows, but thankfully her breasts were still ripe and firm. She stroked her hard plump breasts through the lace of her black top; even without a bra they still looked fabulous.

From of the corner of the mirror she could see Alex watching her, his eyes dark and hooded. Moving her gaze down his body she continued to stroke her breasts, and noted Alex's obvious arousal made more so by his always naked state. It pleased her to see that Alex was ready for her; tonight he would have to wait or face the consequences. Alex had learned to submit to her will after many years in her service. Striding across the room, she continued her furious tirade.

"By now she should be out of the picture, and it should all be mine. Everything she has should be mine. I deserve it; I have paid well for it. Someone will pay; she will get the message…. However in the meantime my lovely."

Her screeching stopped as she purred, her attention now focused on stroking the cheek of her play thing that was currently strapped down and left spread eagled on her unique table.

"I think it's time for a little fun."

He couldn't help begging, he hadn't wanted to but he had to try again.

"Please no, I beg of you. Anything, I promise you anything!" She watched the fear on his face, heightening her own arousal. The man was strapped to the table with his arms and legs spread. With the chains restricting him he was totally secure, no matter how hard he tried he could not escape. He was utterly at her mercy.

His heart pumped furiously at the sight of her, his panic at fever pitch. When SHE wasn't here, her minions came to check on him. He had quickly learned that no matter how hard he pleaded for them to let him go, the only result was that the beatings lasted just that bit longer. Now she had arrived and his nightmares had just started again.

"Now, now don't beg, mmmmm actually do beg, it so turns me on. Now be a good boy and open up."

He refused, he knew what would happen next and he had to try and stop it. He couldn't let that happen again. She nodded prompting Alex to join her, the man was a sadist who pried his mouth open and yanked his head back too far, just so he could force the tablets into his now bleeding mouth. Alex poured the water in, forcing him to drink it and the tablets. All the while he knew that she would be touching herself as she always did. This time he would not show them any more fear, with a deep breath he swallowed the fear. Using all that was left of his will; he held the tears away biting his tongue to keep from panicking.

"Hit him Alex." She whispered with lust and excitement in her voice.

He braced himself but it didn't help when the first blow connected with his jaw. The second landed on his already damaged ribs, while the third blow to his head left him disorientated. Unfortunately though, he was still conscious.

She was stood in front of him having pulled his head to face her. He saw her slide her hands over the tight leather skirt before lifting it high, he watched in disgust as she touched herself intimately. He tried to turn away, but she grabbed his head forcing him to watch her. He tried to look past her as he tried to force his eyes to look dead. He had realised that the fear is what she wanted to see, it aroused her. Alex turned towards her; she sl
apped him hard across the face.

By now he knew that Alex would find that arousing. Closing his eyes he didn't want to see this played out, he had seen it too many times. He knew Alex adored her in whatever way he could feel for anyone, he didn't know why but he had seen the way Alex looked at her. He didn’t need to see it to know that Alex would stroke her arms, before pulling her breasts out of her top so he could bite each nipple in turn, as she pulled hard on his head. He would fall to his knees and slide his hands up her thighs, to touch her hands where she continued to touch herself before asking,

"My queen, can I taste you?" Alex was desperate for her, he always was and it sickened him.

He knew as she smiled that she was waiting to see the response, the one she wanted from his body. As he felt his now hated penis responding to the tablets, he knew he was next in line. He also knew that as always Alex would watch with joy and excitement building, but he was not like Alex he didn’t feel the excitement, he was reminded of this when he felt his stomach knot in fear of her attention, maybe this time they would just kill him.

It seemed that someone was listening to him. She was gazing at him lustfully, but instead of fear she saw his acceptance of his eventual death. Without the fear, he was now worthless to her.

  "I am bored of him."

Alex came towards him with the knife, sliding it over his throat; the pain was only fleeting, as the bliss of death accepted him. In his mind he said goodbye to his wife, he apologized for leaving her alone as he felt the blood trickle down. His life force was slowly ebbing away, he wouldn't let them be the last thing he saw, he pictured his beautiful Emily and their memories, their first date, their wedding day, and the day they moved into their first home. Mercifully, he then stopped feeling anything.

As she watched him stop breathing and die, her excitement rocketed. Her appetite had not been sated.

"Alex I need a new toy, bring down the girl from room three".

  Chapter 2

  "Jesus Lucky GET DOWN!"

Ducking, she narrowly missed being hit by the warlock who had seemed generally harmless, until he started throwing lightning bolts at them. Gods damn it! How had this progressed from paying for a fake psychic reading, to almost being incinerated?

For the last year Lucky had been part of the Paranormal Task Force or PTF for short, every company had to have a decent acronym. After joining the police force at the age of twenty, she had quickly gained a solid reputation with a pretty fantastic clear up rate. For the first thirteen years on the force what her colleagues hadn’t known was that Lucky had the ability to read people's emotions. Only her lieutenant had known and he had served on the squad with her dad, so he had known Lucky from a young age and had kept her secret for a long time, for which she would be eternally grateful.

Even after Other species became an open part of society, Lucky had still kept her secret from her fellow officers. It was only in the last year that she had discovered another gist in her somewhat unusual genetic makeup, Lucky was somehow immune to most forms of magic. So far all types of magic had been unable to penetrate her against her will, however if Lucky chose to let the magic in, she could do so. This along with her other unique skills made her an asset to the PTF.

Aside from these obvious assets Lucky was damn strong. Trained in various martial arts she could bench press more than most human men, and could also take a beating better than most humans, well she healed quicker meaning she didn't look as bruised for as long as most people, though the beatings still hurt like hell.

Her life changed dramatically when she was asked to join the PTF. A significant pay increase and flexible hours were added incentives, along with the ability to use her gifts openly instead of hiding from the world. The pay increase was the initial reason Lucky accepted the job; she would have been crazy not to be terrified at the idea of working alongside vampires, and shifters so the pay incentive was needed. At the time, Lucky who had separated from her husband for three years had been finding it difficult financially. She knew Phil did his best to help when he could afford to, but it hadn't been easy.

It wasn't a surprise that she and Phil had become closer since they separated, part of the reason they divorced was the lack of passion between them which was evident by their mundane life. Lucky had started to resent Phil; she had wanted more though she wasn't quite sure what that 'more' was.

Although Lucky was the only human on the PTF, and there were some problems with a particular colleague who was an ass. She genuinely enjoyed her job and for the first time she had no need to cover up her talents. She was partnered with Darius, who was a pretty decent partner considering he was a Vampire. They actually made a strong team with his superior strength, fast moves and knowledge that could only come from being over 800 years old came in quite helpful, as did her own unique skills. In fact the only problem was his looks, with his extraordinary shoulder length blonde locks, his fantastic bone structure that gave him model like features, his large green eyes and those prominent hard muscles, meant that Lucky was always the ordinary and dowdy one in comparison.

It also galled Lucky that someone 800 years older than her 34 years, could still look younger than she did, which was without a doubt unfair. Although Darius was extremely impressive there had never been any kind of sexual spark between them.

Her work was a high risk job so to protect the team, the headquarters were listed as an accountancy firm. Wanda their resident witch provided Lucky with a potion to induce glamour when at work. Taking this when she arrived, within seconds her appearance had altered; similarly she took the antidote when she left, thus ensuring she was not recognised as part of the PTF. At work she was known as officer Luciano which was close enough to her first name to remember, while giving her added security when off shift.

This morning Bastian her boss who was also a warlock had sent them out to gather enough evidence to arrest a warlock going by the name of Merlin (what a cliché). He was suspected of obtaining property by deception from vulnerable humans. The reports indicated that Merlin started a psychic reading which customers remembered as being unusually good, yet were later unable to recall the details. In addition to this fantastic reading, they also left his shop minus a few of their valuable items such as watches, cash, earrings and on occasions cars. The customers didn't even realise that they had lost anything.

In fact, the reports were prompted by family and friends. Lucky's gifts made her the perfect customer, Merlin would recognise someone of a different species, but as a human he wouldn't see any risks with Lucky. She was certain that the large sparkly diamond on her finger, and the locket round her neck would interest him.

The plan was supposed to be simple, pay for a reading then wait for him to start whatever mumbo jumbo he was doing, record it all on the microphone in her top, then Darius would show up and arrest him. So simple, Not!

After the reading had started, she listened as he chanted a spell which would render the recipient open to his will, as well as leaving them with short term memory loss. Everything was going well; she had enough evidence to end it and knew their investigation was almost complete. Darius came in at the right time, however when he entered Merlin got a little pissed and started shooting lightning at them. They didn't even know that he had the capacity to do that.

"DARIUS MOVE." Lucky bellowed just in time for him to move to the left, narrowly avoiding the glass that shattered from the lightning bolt. Thankfully he did spin close enough to the warlock to reach out with a right hook, which floored him immediately. The small back room was now a mess, with the small round table and crystal ball shattered and splintered all over the floor, as well as the various boxes and books that were now in disarray.

"Jesus Lucky, how did you know he was going for the window?" Darius was flicking dust off of his black jacket and hair in annoyance of the mess.

"I felt his emotions change, he went from feeling panicky to smug and sly; I saw him look at the window, and knew what he was planning. I just wasn'
t close enough to stop him."

Darius knelt down and handcuffed the Warlock. When he returned to the world of consciousness, Darius would take Merlin to the car and from there straight to the station. All of the PTF cars had a distinct tint on the windows to prevent those in the back from seeing out; when they neared the vicinity of the station they would send the screen up between the front and back seats, before pulling into the underground car park. The PTF had their own building with cells that were impenetrable, or they had been so far. Each cell prevented any magic or shifting by using reinforced steel bars, coated in silver and regularly blessed by the local priest. Merlin wasn't going anywhere soon.

As Lucky brought the car round to the door, Darius waited until she had pulled the car up before he came out with Merlin. It was a myth that Vampires turned to dust in the sun; they didn't though any exposure to the sun on bare skin resulted in some serious burns. Older vampires had a higher immunity to the sun yet the burns were still painful, so during the daylight hours Darius made sure that he was well covered, and always wore a baseball cap.

When they were near the station Merlin started laughing almost hysterically; looking at her, he stopped. Merlin was the type of man you didn't remember, he was short and squat, with a receding hair line that he combed in an attempt to cover his bald spot, an unsuccessful attempt. Lucky turned to look at Merlin as she prepared to send the screen up, bemused when he started speaking to her.

"You stopped your reading too soon; don't you want to know the secrets of your future officer Luciano?"

"From a con man like you, I don't think so." Lucky was not in a rush to know the future, preferring to let it come to her, unfortunately Merlin appeared not to be listening.

"Oh but I think you should know that your time is coming," he had started laughing again. "You will be dealing with a force greater than you have ever seen. You will gain in order to loose, yours is to suffer for without the sacrifice there is only the end."
